The Opportunity
Reporting to the R&D Manager , the Senior Food Scientist plays a central role in driving product innovation and technical development across Solina’s Canadian operations. You’ll manage projects from concept to commercialization, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and lead the execution of lab, pilot, and plant-scale trials to ensure successful product launches.
This position is ideal for a hands-on innovator who thrives on experimentation, data-driven problem solving, and transforming ideas into real, market-ready products.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and execute R&D projects from ideation through commercialization.
- Lead lab, pilot, and production trials to ensure smooth product scale-up and quality consistency.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer teams to support projects and accelerate time to market.
- Develop product specifications that meet customer expectations, cost, and profitability targets.
- Troubleshoot and optimize existing recipes to improve production efficiency and supply chain performance.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new ingredients, technologies, and suppliers.
- Act as the key R&D contact for Quality, Regulatory, Production, and Purchasing departments.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, write technical reports, and present results effectively.
- Mentor and train new R&D team members, fostering collaboration and best practices.
- Contribute to SR&ED project selection and reporting for CRA submissions.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable food labeling, nutrition, and safety regulations.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
- Minimum 6 years of experience in food R&D, with strong exposure to liquid and/or powder systems .
- Proven project management and technical leadership skills.
- Strong knowledge of food formulation, sensory evaluation, and product scale-up .
- Creative, curious, and passionate about new ingredients, technologies, and trends.
- Analytical, structured, and results-driven mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
